To all Newaukum Valley Veterinary Services Clients:
At Newaukum Valley Veterinary Services we prioritize the safety, health and well-being of our patients, clients and staff above all else. Accordingly, we participate voluntarily in the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries Safety Consultation Program.
As many of you know, Newaukum Valley Veterinary Services has been in the process of establishing an additional facility in the building previously occupied by Chehalis-Centralia Veterinary Hospital. In accordance with our strong commitment to safety, prior to the purchase of the building we had the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries conduct an inspection of the property. In addition to checking for general hazards, these inspections also check for asbestos, and other serious hazards.
We received notification on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from Labor and Industries that the location at 1214 NW State in Chehalis tested positive for asbestos. Under the advisement of Labor and Industries, the laws governing such matters, and our dedication to protecting our clients, patients, and staff from the risk of asbestos exposure, we immediately closed the doors to the public.
We apologize for the frustration and inconvenience this has caused you, but we hope that you will understand and appreciate our commitment to your safety, the safety of your pets, and the safety of our staff, as well as our commitment to abide by the laws that govern safety hazards in the workplace and environmental hazards to public safety. Due to the urgency of the situation as well as the health risk, we were not able to provide notification, and have not been able to enter the building nor can we safely remove medications, food, or any other items.
We cannot in good conscience expose anyone to asbestos, and as healthcare providers, we feel that we have an even greater duty to protect the health and well-being of the families and patients we serve.
Our location at 311 Hamilton Rd in Chehalis provides high-quality, ethical, research-based, patient-focused veterinary care, and we need to make certain that any facility in which we offer services to our patients and families is a safe place to provide those services.
Until the location at 1214 NW State Avenue is brought to compliance with the law regarding asbestos, we will only be providing services at Newaukum Valley Veterinary Services at River Bend Pet Center.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support,
Dr. Brandy Fay and the Newaukum Valley Veterinary Services Team
